It’s a family affair! Family photos are an important part of a newborn photography photoshoot. Having professional photos taken of you and your newborn baby is a wonderful thing.

I also love it when there are multiple generations present for a newborn photoshoot. Grandparents are such a special part of a family. For those of us lucky enough to still have our parents or grandparents around, incorporating them into family photoshoots is a really special idea.

One of my favourite newborn sessions recently incorporated three grandparents and it was really special for the family to be together to mark the occasion. Also present were two incredibly gorgeous older sisters who were very proud of their newest sibling.

This lovely family had never had a photoshoot before for any of the kids. It was an absolute honour to document this time for them. For many years to come, they will have these special photographs to enjoy and to help them remember this time in their lives.

Children especially love looking at photos of themselves when they were babies. My kids and I were recently looking through the set of photographs we took when my second child was born. My oldest daughter said “was that really how little I was when he was born?”. She is right, she looks so young. My second child is still only two, but it is amazing how quickly my daughter has grown up in the past two years. I remember at the time when he was born, it felt like she was so much older. A four year old next to a newborn is definitely a contrast however all of a sudden she has lost her baby face and looks like the big “school girl” that she now is.

In the case of this photoshoot that I am showcasing here, the same sentiments will probably be felt. The two “big sisters” will really look like babies in a few years. That is the wonderful thing about photographs. They really do capture a moment in time that cannot be given back, except through enjoying the photographs.

One of my favourites from this photoshoot is a shot that I probably thought would be an “out take” during the photoshoot. However when I saw it, I loved it.  I gave it a tongue in cheek title: “See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil “. It is the first photograph shown below. You certainly could not direct a shot to have a result like that with a four year old, a two year old and a newborn. It gave me a good laugh. It is a true example of a moment in time being captured forever.

If you would like to book in a family or family and newborn photoshoot with your family, please get in contact to arrange a time, including a pre-consultation if you wish. I am always happy to discuss the types of photos that you want before our session together.
